The third season of Gewoon Rechtdoor is almost finished, and what a season it has been! If I may quote the seasons' preview:
"we managed to reach division 3 - to our own surprise. This actually seems a bit too much for the team right now. Division 4 now feels like the right place for us to be in. If we can continue to grow, hopefully by the end of the season we are really ready for 3rd division."
The team did not stick to that plan: results were so good that we promoted to division 2 and reached the top 100 about halfway into season 57. While expecting to drop back, the wins and podiums kept coming and I still cannot really believe it but am also proud to say it:
We will finish the season at #63(-ish)!
Another quote from the preview: "We are very dependent on the two captains, and will definately try to add some scoring power to the squad in season 57."
That failed miserably, which was a great dissapointment. Both Lonzo and Jason, 200+ potential sprinters, finished their training waaaay too early to be of any use other than as a LO for the time being. Money well wasted, which also means we could not afford a third captain. Estevan Mayo also proves difficult to use: he scored 0 points this season also because he only got 1 chance. (serious question to whoever reads this: what should I do with him? afaik he still not maxed with average potential in both CL and DH, but will he ever captain a race...?)
But this is where our infamous duo stepped in and took their responsibility. Combined, they were good for 7 wins and 16 results (all time highs).
Gerben Fens scored 555 points, beating his previous season. He won races in up to division 2 now, while still being only 24, proving he can beat the great sprinters of OCM if the terrain suits him well. A true specialist and one of the fastest man on a bike!
The man of the hour however is without a doubt Eric Brink. Currently number 13 in the riders ranking, with a whopping 1100 points. 685 of these came from Flat Road races. If my calculations are right, he was the most successful FR-rider of the season. That also means an incredible 415 points were from non-FR races, where he clearly was not the favourite. Carefully selecting his races, he captained 14 times this season, with an 8th place in Helsinki GP Mini as his worst result.
That brings our total to 1655, which is almost double the score of last season.
Looking forward, our goal is still to race at the highest level. We aim to win and score where we can. There is a chance that this brings us to division 1 in the first third of season 58, which would be an amazing goal reached much sooner than expected.
Another goal is obviously to keep Eric competing in the FR-arena (thanks Frank!).
Gerben might go for the SC in Volta ao Porto, but as that will be our first SC attempt ever, expectations are low and plans can change.
With the addition of Xiomar Impastato and Herman Dijksma for the sprint-train and Filip Myrvold and Husam al Din Fakhiri for the flat ride train, both trains are ready to roll for the time being. That gives us the oppertunity to look into new possibilities. A third captain would be nice and the search for one is actually underway. I am a bit fed up with training after the two busts of last season, but that might change if we find the right talent.
There are still lots of people I have to thank for giving their advice throughout the season, but I think this time especailly a big think you to Team Zyte and
Schiavi di Don is also well deserved for cleaning up all the mess in the second part of the season, besides al the work they already put into this beautiful world.
See you all next season on the next episode of the Eric & Gerbne show!

Really impressive season for your two captains, very good choice of races and LOs resulted in a tremendous series of good results, keep it on !!
Hm, that might be a good idea for Mayo, thanks!
Your season is a masterclass in young team management. Congrats!
Btw of you start using TFs and recharge the captain now and then, I believe Mayo can be of great value.
Congrats to a fantastic season! :-)
